Kannada Slangs

Aasthi: It has got nothing to do with property or wealth...It is used to describe figure of girl
Eg: Magaa nodo alli aa figure na, avrakkan yeshtu Aasthi ittidale...

ADaal: It may sound like a word of English origin similiar to 'nodal',modal' etc. But it is
an orthodox word which can be a subtitute for a vast array of words like lousy,wretched,ugly,
goddamned,despicable etc.

Baththi hoDi: It is different from "Baththi IDu"...it is used to describe smoking
Eg: Yenla Baththi hoDitha idiya...

Baththi iDu: To conspire
Eg: Saryaag lecturer hatra nammele batti itta nan maga...

Batte Harisu: Used commonly to tell someone is eating your head
Eg: Lo aa loafer ninne nange Batte Harisi bitta...

Here you can define certain levels of "Batte Harisodu"
Level 1: DIGJAM(Cloth company)
Level 2: REYMONDS
Level 3: REID & TAILOR
read as increasing levels from 1-3

Beat hoDi: Wander about aimlessly, especially in the evenings, for bird watching...
Eg: Enilla maga, nenne full KD Road alli beat hodyakke hogidde...

Benne Hachchu: Used to describe buttering
Eg: Aa LKB ninne HOD ge Benne hachchtha iddaa...

Bittaku: Used commonly in "grapes are sour" like situations.
Eg: Magaa sumne thale kedsko beda Bittaku ashte...

Blade: Lavish spending, usually on others
Eg: Nenne avna birthday ittalla...sakkattagi blade haakidwi...

Boys: All those by-two tea drinking , lab exam fearing, gentlemen who resort to Maruti tent
movies towards month ends after draining their SB accounts on Sterlings and Sangams before.

Burude: prevaricate,brag etc...
Eg: HaaLAdonu yeneno full burude bitta, nambkondu bakraagaLaadvi

By-Two: Anything that is shared between two persons, need not be tea-coffee only. If two lab
exam partners have viva together , they say "By-two agi viva hodskondwi" when they come out.

Chamcha: A stooge
Eg: Avnu Seena na chamcha...

Chappar: One who is not as good as a punter and not as bad as a loafer.

Chatri: It does not mean umbrella...but it is used to describe a person who is a mixture of kantri
and intelligent,usually a person not to be relied upon
Eg: Avnannu nambakke hogbedappa, bhayaanaka chatri avnu...

ChoDu: Same as Burude

Chombu: It has got nothing to do with utensils used in kitchen...It means lost or doomed.
Eg: Ivnanna nambikondre chombu gyaranti.

Dabba: Assembly programming kit , CRO etc that require a pat on the top to get the correct output.

Dabba Bidu(Dabba Hathsu): Same as Pungu

Dagaar: A pros, contribution of Jaggesh film "Tarle nan maga"

Devru: Seen only once in a while
Eg:Oh Oh Oh, barbeku devru...

DharmadeTu: When a bunch of people (say 3-5) (especially those irrelevent people who are not
authoritative) collectively beat up (not very violently) a person, for no (or little) fault of his...
Eg: Yaaro huDgi kookonDidikke paapa ivnige dharmadETu biththu...

ENNe: Liquor
Eg: Enamma paarTyli full eNNe haakudyante...

EttangaDi: Forcefully sending a person to another place where he is not comfortable
Eg: Magane, neeru niDi illada jaagakke ettangaDi maaDbiDteeni...

Fandu: One who says "The abdominal nervous system of mine is immensely desirous of some
commendable culinary offerings"instead of saying"I am hungry.I want to go to canteen".

Feelingu: Displeasure, a feeling range of feelings from boredom to sorrow.
Eg: En magaa full feelingalli ideeya...?

Flat: Fully overwhelmed
Eg: Aa phigarna nodi full flatu kaNamma...

Full Chamakku: Used liberally when someone tries to make an impression,without substantial
(evidential )bolstering (building facades)
Eg: Enilla magaa sumne chamak maaDtaane ashte...

Gandhi: A very mild person, dunderhead, dunse(not an affront to Mahatma)
Eg: Magne ti** muchchu neenen bhala Gandhi thara aaDodu...

GunDu: Same as ENNe

Guru: Way of addressing a friend...
Eg: En guru en samachara?

HarkoLodu: Used to describe boasting
Eg: Aa nan maga na yaavagloo sumne harkothane

Heavy: It has nothing to do with weights. One can say "heavy panta","heavy dialogue hoditane" etc.

Jai Aagu: Disappear, vanish especially after a special incident...
Eg: Ellargoo topi haaki Jai Andbitta avnu...

Jamaana(Zamaana dalli): Long long ago, very long ago, nobody knows how long ago, very flexible time scale...
Eg:Ee vishyaana yaavdo jamaana dalle keLidde...

KaDIthidyaa ???: A way of questioning interference into others matters
Eg: Sumne kothkoLo, yaake kaDIthidyaa?

Kai BiDu: Slang generally used for some sort of sexual overtures, though not always...
Eg: Kai biDakke hogidda ansatte, full zoomall bartidaane nanmaga...

KaLachiko: Get lost
Eg: Jaasti aaytu magne, kaLachiko...

Kantri: Wicked, treacherous person
Eg: Thoo!!! avnaa kantri nanmaga...

Kirik: Something irritating
Eg:Thoo aa nan magaana, bhaari kirikku...

Kivige Hoovu: Dunse, dunderhead, stupid, make a fool of etc...Also famous as KMF(Kivi Mele Flower)
Eg: Naaven kivig Hoov muDkonDilla neen heLiddella nambakke...

Khatharnaak: It does not mean something dangerous...but it is used to describe something amazing
Eg: Aa film magaa...khatharnaak aagide...

Koole: JCE CS & NIE Mech. people occationally take breaks from it and attend classes.

KuDmi: One who studies very hard, assiduous, considered a vice among people from NIE
Eg: Avnenu shaa...punta,bari kuDmi...

Kuyyi: Used when someone is boring too much
Eg: Aa hosa lecturer nenne class alli full Kuyydha magaa...

Linu: Synonyms for lovvu
Eg: Enamma full line hoDithidyaa avLige!!!

LKB: Short form of the famous hindi BuyguLa (Love DAY K BALL).
Eg: Aa LKB canteen alli full scope thagotha idda...

Luvvu : Ther is a tendency to confuse it for romance,duet ,dil churana etc etc. Any two things that
are close and interrelated have luvvu. One can say " Logic Designgoo Computer Organizationgoo fullll...luvvu".

Machcha: Friends use this word to address each other
Eg: Hogli bidu machcha...tension thagobeda...

Maga: The actual meaning is "SON" but you say this to someone who is very close to you.
Eg: En magaa hengidiya?

Matash(mata): See oosht.

Michine BiDu: Used to describe sexual act
Eg: Lo avnu ninne avna girlfriend ge bettadalli Michine Bittananthe...

MoLe HoDi: Same as Kuyyi

MoTTe iDu: Same as NoNa HoDi

Muchchiko: Trying to tell a person not to be very bragful abt self...
Eg:sumne ti** muchchiko, jaasthi maataaDbeDa...

MunDaaisu: Same as blade except that it is strictly done by others...
Eg: kaL nanmakLu saryaag munDaaisudru...

Naayi tara: It is phrase coined by Babburu Kamme hostel linguists."Ninne Warne Tendulkar kaiyalli
nayi tara hodskonda " is a commom expression . But Babboru Kammes and their admirers use the phrase very
liberally,for example "examige naayi tara odta iddane".

NoNa HoDi: Sit idle, jobless
Eg: Yaaroo customerse illa noNa hoDitaa idaane...

Nimmajji: Common abuse, conveying a whole variety of feelings

Oosht: When you see only bisi bele bath on your CRO instead of a sin curve one says "oosht aytu".

Osi: Spelled as OC...Free, not shelling out from own pocket.
Eg:Osi sigatte andre odi bartane nan maga...

Othla: Same as Beatu

Peesu(Piece): Beautiful, sensuous female
Eg: En magaa peesu sakhathaagi ide

Pungu: Punging is an essential ability for papers like PRCRW and Indstrial Management.

Punter(Panta): One who gets a sin curve on the above mentioned CRO,programming a burnt IC.

Rail Bidu: Same as Burude

Right HeLu: A more "decent" form of TMRH...

Sakhat: Superb, wonderful...
Eg: En maja bantamma, sakhathaagi ittu...

Scope: When someone who is basically adal, pretends to be a panta,boys feel that he is taking scope.

Sekhe: Suffocating...used to describe situations when some one is taking scope.
Eg: Magaa Sekhe sakkat jaasti aaythu

Set: Essentially a dosa item in canteens . Some eminent lingo scholars are unhappy that this elegant
termis misused by some authers who say "Set Theory","Identity element of a set" etc.

Shaa(Shaa**): Of trivial value, trifle
Eg:adrallenide Shaa...beTTakke Shaa kaTTI eLyadu bandre beTTa hodre Shaa

Shape Hoythu: A dint on your self esteem, especially when something substantial negates your
description of your pompous self.
Eg:Full ti** haritaa idda...sakhattagi shape hoythu...

Sightu: Same as Linu
TK(Ti** Kobbu): A very arrogant person
Eg: Ashtond TK idre hange aagadu...

TMRH: Ti** muchkond right heLu
Eg: Jaasti maathaDbeDa, sumne TMRH...

Udis: Same as mataash

Uncle: It has nothing to do with relations. If a gentleman cals any other gentleman "uncle" just
because he feels like doing so,it is grammatically valid, and if the other gentleman calls him back "uncle"
that is also grammatically valid.

Uri: Jealousy
Eg: Nan car noDi avnge full Uritaayide...

Zingu: This is how ladies and gentlemen look on the day of mock interviews and mock GDs etc.
Zoom: Used to describe something in full swing...
Eg: Enamma naale exam ge full zoom alli odhthideeya
